Re: Response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease)
From: Killam Apartment REIT Corporate Office

Killam Apartment REIT recognizes that as property owners, business operators, employers and community members, we have an important role to play in managing and controlling the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Killam has been very active monitoring the growing impact of the virus and implementing its Pandemic Illness Plan to help lessen the spread of the virus and maintain the continued good health of all our stakeholders, namely our employees, residents, seasonals and the broader communities in which we operate.

As such, we look to our valued contractors to confirm that they and their staff are operating with the same principles in mind as Killam, including but not limited to:

  • Contractors are to notify Killam when you will be working at one of our properties
  • Contractors are to wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using hand sanitizer as required
  • Coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue (throw the tissue away) to stop the spread
  • Using gloves wherever possible and using gloves at all times when working on a water system
  • Ensuring use of gloves and PPE when doing wastewater repairs or when inside a STP and ensuring no transmission of particles or the like from any wastewater source
  • Limiting contact with others when you're sick
  • Limiting touching your eyes, nose, and mouth and being especially careful of same in a workplace
  • Clean the area of work prior to commencing work and upon completion of work, IE taps, doorknobs, countertops, pumps, vehicles, equipment, etc. and do this often
  • Maintaining safe social distancing of at least six feet from others including other staff, tenants, seasonals while work is being carried out

In Case of Illness:

  • Contractors and their employees are to follow protocols set by local and national health authorities and government agencies
  • Contractor and their employees will stay home and seek medical advice if they experience symptoms
  • If a contractor or their employee has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 they must report their illness the public health authorities

Contractor is actively monitoring developments and staying informed by reviewing information from trusted sources regularly, including Provincial Health Authorities, The Public Health Agency of Canada, and the World Health Organization and is following their guidelines and directives.
